Comic book fans will be happy to hear that Avengers: Age of Ultron, the latest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is coming to theaters on July 17, 2017.
It has been dubbed “a cinematic masterpiece,” by The Wrap.
In its trailer, a black-clad Ultron (Chris Evans) and the villainous Thanos (Jeremy Renner) both take the stage at the opening of the film.
“Assembling the greatest team the world has ever known, Avengers is here, and it’s a new beginning for the Marvel Universe,” says the film’s tagline.
“Together, they’ll do what’s right for all of humanity.”
A few hours later, in an interview with the New York Times, Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige explained the reasons for Ultron’s presence in the film: “I think it’s the best way for us to build on the success of Age of Avengers, where we had a really successful film, a really important film, with all the characters we’ve brought to life, all the fantastic stories we’ve created, and then to add another one to that that we haven’t done before,” he said.
The trailer features some spectacular special effects, which are sure to impress even the most hardcore Avengers fan.
“There’s a lot of cool stuff going on in this film,” Feige added.
“I just love the combination of that and the fact that it’s going to be a big part of the MCU.”
The trailer also includes some footage from the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, which is set to hit theaters in 2019.
It’s not clear what kind of action-packed scenes the film will have, but it does feature a scene that features Thor, Valkyrie (Viktor Volstagg) and their fellow Avengers team members fighting the Thanos-led villain Black Bolt.
In the film, Thor and Loki are on their way to meet Thanos to negotiate a peace treaty.
After a tense exchange, Thanos and his Black Bolt attack, and Thor has to save the team.
“When they reach the summit, they discover that there’s no peace, and there’s only one thing that can stop Black Bolt: The Avengers,” Feig said.
“So Thor has an idea.
He decides to lead the team into battle, in order to stop Black Bors attack.”
After a fierce battle, Thor’s team is saved from a massive attack by Thor’s wife Sif (Scarlett Johansson), who reveals to them that she’s pregnant with their baby, named Black Bolt (Chris Hemsworth).
As Thor and Sif fight the villain, the baby’s mother, Queen Medusa (Amy Adams), appears to be killed.
“Sif tells them that there is one other woman in the world who can save them, but they’ll never know who it is,” Feingige said.
Sif is later revealed to be the Black Widow, a woman who was responsible for the deaths of many of the Avengers in the past.
“It’s her story,” he added.
The film will also feature a cameo from the new Spider-Man character, Tom Holland.
“Tom Holland is here,” Feiger teased.
“He’s been playing Tom Holland for a long time now.”
Feige also confirmed that Thor will have a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but didn’t give any details about who.
The first trailer was released on August 25, 2017, and is currently viewed more than 17 million times on YouTube.
